It was another sunny Saturday in our lovely, lovely Munich but for our boys in blue it was definitely special... Having gathered a dedicated, numerous crowd in Großhadern, they had set their hearts and souls to win the probably most anticipated match of the season: the derby against StuSta... And oh boy they delivered... Not 5min into the game, our lions showed sheer fierceness scoring an early try through our cub Akram. Not much longer after, Sebastian Schüppel showed once again his terrific fitness whilst delighting the crowd after he got his jersey ripped off on the making. Just like that, MRFC had set the rythm of the match, and even though StuSta, tough as always, tried to come back, the MRFC brothers didn't let them get too close in the score by setting up a fierce defence of hard tackles and continuous turnovers. The 26 points advantage at half time (31-5) was carried on until the end of the match. MRFC showed why this match was so important to them, not ceasing in their intents of breaking through the defenders' line and relentlessly attacking out wide and scoring tries. They didn't forget about the crowd, bringing a feast to their eyes with a couple of break-throughs in the most 7s style at the hands of Fred Odur and even a try scored by Kraam after a great defensive effort in their own 22.
All in all, a huge milestone was achieved by the lions in their quest for the second place in the table, this time bringing home the one against the old rival StuSta with a clear 46-17 victory.

MRFC Victorious in Stuttgart
The sun beat down in Stuttgart on Saturday as Munich travelled to Stuttgart for another match in the 2. Bundesliga, looking to rebound from a slightly lacklustre performance at Rottweil the week before. The boys had worked hard over the previous week and all on the bus were in high spirits as we departed Munich, heading West.
Upon arrival at Stuttgart, it became apparent that the home team had taken the phrase "sun's out guns out" too literally and were, to a man, walking around shirtless whilst going about their preparations for the game. Before we could stop him, Yassin 'Big-Rig' Barik had followed suit, though we were quick enough to prevent Cleggy from joining in. This stood in stark contrast to the MRFC coaching/support team of Warner, Moughty and Cross, who were to be observed spending almost the entire 80 minutes of the game huddled together, copiously applying sun cream - to avoid the British and Irish Lions becoming the British and Irish Lobsters.
The start of the game could hardly have been better for the men in blue. Scarcely had they kicked off before they crossed the try line, with Rama Govule charging over after a mere 2 minutes to score the first points of the game. Shortly thereafter, after another good kick-off and pressure from the Bavarians, Robbie Schuster also dotted the ball down to score, with Munich leading 0 - 14 with just 5 minutes gone.
The home side continued to fiercely contest, however, and scored a try of their own. Unfortunately for them, it was to be their last score of the day - testament to the visitors' tough defence. The hosts never ceased to fight throughout the entire game though, which is certainly to their credit.
As MRFC probed and tested the Stuttgarter defences, they found a rhythym and flow to their attack; it became clear that they were growing into the game and building on an already impressive start. Man of the match, Gerd Gerhards, had a fantastic day propping for 80 minutes in the heat and was seemingly omnipresent on the pitch. Brenner succeeded in drawing at least three men into every tackle on him, whilst the pack took control of the scrum. At one point, Karl Wolff made an extraordinary 5 tackles in about 20 seconds! The good use of a structured game which nonetheless allowed for individual creativity definitely was bringing out the best in the players. Fred Odur grabbed a couple of tries, and Robbie added another to his tally before halftime, leaving the score at 5 - 33 going into the break.
Thereafter the Münchner stamped their authority onto the game. Whilst the attack continued to impress, with Dougie and then Axle Mrkaa joining the tryscorers, even more pleasing was the defensive effort. The visitors dealt well with kicks, turning the tables on their opponents with swift counter-attacks. They did not repeat mistakes of over-committing to rucks and were much better placed to contain their opponents as a result. Further tries from Govule, Wolff and Kikawa rounded off a fine performance from MRFC, as they ran out 5 - 67 winners.

RC Rottweil : München RFC
39 : 18

Another strong performance from MRFC in less than ideal conditions. The opposition Karlsruhe came hard and fast in the opening exchanges of the match. It was anyone’s game at this point. A great clearance kick was fielded by Brian the lion who then burst past three players giving a key pass to Fafiolu who gracefully charged like a gazelle under the posts. Adam Popperwell converts. 7:0 MRFC. The opposition Karlsruhe did not give up and looked dangerous in their attack until Brian the lion jumped what must have been 5 foot off the ground to intercept the ball! His offload was then fielded by none other than the gazelle Fafiolu who once again charged at the posts this time from the half way line. Adam Popperwell converts. 14:0 MRFC! The opposition still came but were met by fierce tackles from Robbie, Doug and Nick to name a few. Then disaster! Robbie was given a yellow Card for a high tackle! The opposition could smell blood but Munich held strong! After a strong drive from the forwards a penalty try was awarded to MRFC. Surely it was game over now. 77 mins and Govule decided to tear up the field running through 15 players to score. Popperwell once again with a sublime conversion. To complete the rout Mr cross sliced the opposition open with a key line after some great work from Jose and confirmed the well deserved win for MRFC! 33-0 final score.

Saturday is a rugby day and that's why a big crowd showed up at Großhadren on a mild autumn day in Munich. As the fans got hungry, there was no cake sale that day, they demanded a extra effort from MRFC first XV. A Karlsruhe side was ready and optimistic about repeating their victory on the first game of the season, but that was not going to happen.
Before the game a minute of silence was made in memory of our beloved friend Gordon King who left us on November 3rd.
With the kick-off being made, both teams put their best effort in the first 10 mins, with a tight and fair game in every corner of the pitch. But Munich had a secret weapon, lock #5 David Clegg, on BEAST MODE, doing everything, from turnovers to tapping quick penalties and assisting teammates. Those were 30min of pure magic!! Enough time to put MRFC up in the scoreboard, tries from Fred Odur x2, Billinho Buff and David "The Beast" Clegg + 3 conversions from Fred Begards, left us with 26 points. Just a few little mistakes form the Munich side let Karlsruhe score a try and a penalty. HT score 26-8
Second half started with a confidence boost for MRFC and a commitment to improve an already good first half. The Lions took control of the game, and with possession and patience, they dominated Karlsruhe form the beginning to the end. First with a try from #7 Robert Schuster and then with running show by Brian Kikawa on the last 20 min of the game, he scored two tries and gave an assistance to Javier Gonzalez for another one. Billinho Buff was again present on the scoreboard with a try on the 60th minute. French Fred added another convertion to put MRFC score in 53. Karlsruhe scored another try at the end of the game. That will put the final score 53-13.
Overall was a really good game to watch, the fans were so happy that they forgot about the absent cake sale. Something that apparently the players didn't.
MRFC is still on the race for a playoff spot that will be decided next year. Right now we need to focus on the Ligapokal match next week. Same opposition team on the same field.
